This summer was a whirlwind of activity and trust in God’s will. It began with meeting with Matt to talk more in detail about CCFM and all that had happened while Kyle and I had been in Canada. We were in the end work of obtaining non-profit status and Matt was beginning to set up meeting with churches that were interested in working with us. All of it involved a lot of trust in where God was leading us (and many trips from Houston to College Station). By the end of the summer we had non-profit status, three parishes, and six ministries!
Preface: For this post I need a background introduction so here is the prologue (is that what it’s called??) to this story: If you’ve read some of Matt’s post’s you’ll see that he talks about Kyle and I being gone for a year, so I thought I should explain that first. From August 26, 2011- June 1, 2012 I was serving as a missionary with NET Ministries of Canada. NET stand for National Evangelization Teams; it is a non-profit missionary organization who’s mission is to help young Catholics encounter Christ and embrace the life of the Church.
Spring of 2012 started with the intention of transitioning leadership at St. Joseph’s. I didn’t really know at first what exactly it was going to mean to transition. Obviously it meant that Matt was going to do less and I was going to do more as far as this particular ministry went. I was going to be handed more and more parts of St. Joseph’s, as Matt created more and more parts of CCFM.
There are too few real men out there. For some time, while remaining hopeful, I wasn't sure if I'd ever see the tide change. I never thought I'd see the day when there were more and more men willing to stand up for truth, take risks, and fight for beauty and life. Don't get me wrong, in no way do I think the tide has fully swung the other way, but it does seem as if we may have hit the low end of it and started coming back.
How do you know when a moment will alter your life plans and expectations forever? If anyone comes up with a witty philosophical answer then please let me know, because at the moment I have no idea. At least I didn’t recognize it when it came in the form of a pizza lunch with Matt Rice and Alyssa Trutter.
